TEACHING YOU PET TO SIT /
JUMPING OVER AN OBJECT

TEACHING YOUR PET PIG TO SIT

The best time to teach your pet pig to sit is when you are almost ready to feed your pet. It is always easier when you have a pocket full of treats handy.

With both of you standing facing each other, feed your pet one treat from your hand. The first treat is always a free treat.

Now the work begins for the pig. It is necessary for your pet to work for its treats.

If you can manage to have the backside of your pet against the wall (a corner is even better) show the treat to your pet and then try and hide it within your fingertips to prevent your pet from nipping.

Say "SIT" and guide the pig into a sit. Make sure to give your pet the treat immediately when his/her bottom touches the floor and say "Good Pig".

Remember if the pig does not sit, your pet does not get the reward of the treat.

JUMPING OVER AN OBJECT

Place a 4 foot section of 3/4 inch PVC pipe on the ground. To make the pipe noticeable, spiral black electrial tape around the pipe.

Make sure that the pig is on one side of the pipe facing the other side, offer it a treat and say "JUMP". Give the praise to your pet after it has crossed completely over the pipe.

It is important to follow the treat with a verbal praise and always use the same verbal praise. Repeat this in both directions, turning it by keeping a treat in front of its face.

After 25 or so times raise the pipe one inch at a time until it is about 8 inches off the ground. As we know, the pipe gets higher your pet may knock it off occasionally.

When it is knocked down do not give a treat. Use the treat to guide the pig back to the starting place. Replace the pipe and then proceed with the lesson.
